Laying the Foundation for Total Health

Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things must happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully.

Evaluations in Jacksonville, FL - What to Expect

When you visit our office in Jacksonville, we will speak with you to determine the probable cause of your injury. This assessment will help us to evaluate the possible severity of the injury and the location of the pain or discomfort.

From there, we will determine the next steps for chiropractic treatment. Because every person and every injury is completely unique, there is no standard, one-size-fits-all process. Your situation will be evaluated as an independent circumstance and you will be given focused attention based on what you and your doctor discuss.

Why Visit an Injury or Chiropractic Office?

There are a tremendous number of benefits of visiting Dr. Polk. The first is that you will be examined by Dr. Polk who understands that your condition is special and needs immediate attention. Chiropractic injuries can be exceedingly painful and, in many cases, the person finds it impossible to return to work and other activities until the condition has been resolved.

In other instances, the injury may have to do with a legal claim, in which case a very specific protocol of examinations and evaluations must be followed so that the patient has the correct paperwork to file with their attorney.

Still another benefit of working with an injury chiropractor is that the patient can avail of a customized chiropractic treatment plan that takes into consideration the nature of the injury as well as the condition of the patient before and after the injury.

What Do Examinations & Evaluations Involve?

When you come in for a chiropractic examination and evaluation, your physical chiropractic condition will be examined to determine what is out of alignment and what specifically might be causing the pain and discomfort. You will receive a professional medical assessment, which you can use for your own personal use, for your insurance company or for your legal team.

Finally, you’ll be presented with a professional recommendation of treatment options designed to alleviate pain or discomfort and to facilitate the recovery process.

The Phases of Chiropractic Care

At Amazing Spine Care, we apply a 3 phase-type of care to help you recover from pain and build a foundation for you to manage and treat your symptoms or conditions. Our highly skilled team of specialists will give you the tools and knowledge to prevent the pain from coming back or occurring in the future.

Phase 1 – Relief Care

Many people go to a chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first phase of care, our main goal is to reduce your symptoms and help you feel better. Sometimes this will require daily visits or two to three visits per week for a time. It is typical to need care two to three times per week for four to 12 weeks.

Most people are under the assumption that if they don't feel any pain, there is nothing wrong with them. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced.

For example, consider a cavity in your tooth. Does it hurt when it first develops or only after it has become serious? How about heart disease? Regardless of whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stress, or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.

Phase 2 – Corrective Care

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a patient’s care. If all that the chiropractor does is reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of your condition recurring are much greater.

To prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone.

During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. You will not have to receive adjustments as often in the correction / restorative phase of your care. Depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at the center or at home to help accelerate your healing. Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed.

It is typical to need care four to eight times per month for six to 24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.

Phase 3 – Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure your physical problems do not return and keep your body in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well to sustain the benefits of exercise and proper diet, it is necessary to continue chiropractic care to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor one to four times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.

When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the aches and pains that so many people suffer through, your joints will last longer.

At Amazing Spine Care, we’ll apply these phases to help you recover from pain. We’ll also give you the tools and knowledge to prevent pain from coming back or occurring in the future.
